Heavy Load the Movie is being screened on BBC4 tonight at 10pm. The movie features footage of the famous Stay Up Late launch night at Brighton’s Komedia venue and also extensive footage of the band working their way from local pub gigs through to a slot at a mainstream summer music festival. The movie also deals with the reality of life within a band and the struggles that plague every band!
If you see the film then come back and let us know what you thought of it – we’d love to hear!!
Guys, what can I say. Fantastic stuff and you deserve all your success.
I was going to go to bed to read a book but you got me hooked!
Damn good music!
just realised…..you got me to stay up late!
You guys Rock! Keep up the good work! Len
Just watched the movie tonight and was blown away by it all! I have heard of you guys but not about the stay up late campaign.
I am privilaged to work with adults with learning difficulties and firmly believe in choice. Please, please play up north. Well done and keep rockin!
Loved the film guys. From an old punk rocker, keep up the good work.
Guys – what a great film – and a great band. Dedication through and through. My brother is downs, and he loves his music – I’ll be telling him about you guys ! – I see him often but do not do as much as I could. That will change – you’ve really made me proud to have him as a brother – and I hope to take him to a gig. Keep Rockin !
Just watched the film tonight – great music and great documentary.
Even betterI only live 20 miles from Keswick – we have just bought tickets to see you there on Friday night. looking forward to a good night.
Hadn’t intended to watch TV late but your film was well worth the late night. The band’s energy came over really well, and the members as a great unit. My 11 year old son came through and persuaded me to let him stay up and watch the festival gig – he was really impressed too!
Good luck with the campaign – a great idea!
loved the show! watched it on iplayer, it’s nearly 3am and im meant to up up for work tomorrow. thanks for keeping me up late, my boss wont be too amused 😀
Watched last night, it was brilliant, lots of food for thought.I work with adults with learning difficulties and like Jo firmly believe in choice. Keep up the good work. I have a sister with a learning disability, she stays up late!!
Watched last night – so much of what you say is true – I work with people with Learning disabilities, and so often they do not “stay up late” – we need to get our guys to come and see you play – they would love it! I for one would be up for a late night!!
Your music, and passion – fantastic!
Congratulations! Watched your film last night it was great. I work in the NHS training support workers in sexual health and relationships for people with learning disabilities and staying up late and meeting people is always the problem. Keep up the good work.
This film was so inspiring. My son has learning difficulties and autism and his greatest joy is singing and dancing. He has lots of energy and would love a band like Heavy Load.
It also made my think about staying up late and how difficult this is for people with learning disabilities. Never thought about this before – thanks for bringing it to my attention Heavy Load!
I was going to have an early night! (my choice!) but happened upon your film on BBC 4. I am very impressed with the band’s dedication and obvious love of what they do. Good Luck with your Stay up Late Campaign! x
Hi all loved the show, the problem of staying up late is all over the place I despair some times when I see support workers looking at their watches at 9.00 and telling people to get their coats on to go home when they are clearly enjoying themselves and don’t want to go home! support must be person centred, it’s suely not rocket science to be able to let someone live the life they want to? Keep rocking guys and please let us know when you are coming north.
Hey Guys,
Top job on the BBC last night. I’ve heard of you guys but never witnessed your music…….
In my humble opinion you’re one of the few bands that remembers what it’s all about – fun. Fantastic songs and a great show -hopefully I’ll see you in the Midlands soon?!
Keep up the good work and no early nights!!!!!!!!
Cheers…….
Wathched the film last night guys, i was due to go to bed but you kept me awake, well worth the late night. Any chance of any tour dates for this year it would be great to see you in Liverpool. Keep rockin.
Hi, Thought the show was great It smashed the mold of old notions about disability. Vibrant, loud, funny in your face and crystal clear….have a rave.
Loved the film. Would love to see more of the band.

I work in supported learning @ West London College + have a disabled son (who is heavily involved in disabled football as are we, now) – the programme on BBC 4 was BRILLIANT and an inspiration to everyone – we will be showing it to our students, when we can get the equipment to work! Music and football are great levellers, and reminded me of the football tournaments we take our players on in Europe. I wish Heavy Load all the very best and will support the Stay Up campaign wholeheartedly – I hadn’t heard about it, which surprised me, as I am so involved with disability – again, Good Luck!
You are all an inspiration – keep going – keep the faith and KEEP ROCKING! Please come to the Isle of Wight!
Hi. Just want to say the same as eveeryone really. Great show, great people, great music, great ‘crusade’. I will keep an eye out for any gigs ‘up north’ that I can get to.
Hi guys,
Wow! I’ll be honest I’d heard of you until today, but been browsing your site and seen your gigs and they’re fab! You much come to Worcestershire. Like some of the other guys here I am a support worker too and the arguments I’ve had over choice and the distinct lack of it, well, I could go on for hours! I’d give anything to support in this way – damn those contraints of eejits who think they know what supported living is, but actually don’t! I’ll keep watching and hope to see you sometime in the future. Claire X
Saw the movie accidentally mondayevening while I was zapping, and was completley swept away!! What fun do you have and what a mission. It gave me so much energy. Keep up the good work, and stay up late!!
Brilliant gig at Keswick last night – whole band on fine form and enjoying yourselves.Michael’s drumming was brilliant.
Safe trip back south – thanks for a brilliant night.
Thanks for a brilliant gig at Keswick last night guys, hope you can come back again soon!! I fully support the campaign and will be spreading the word! P.S the CD’s pretty damn good too!
A truely inspiring film! I was amazed at the determination, dedication, intelligence and commitment you all show. Hope that the campaign and your musical careers prove to be a success. Really enjoyable, moving and intensely inspiring film.
